Today, much of the world lives in large-dense urban areas and cities, and the majority of emergency calls come from cell phones. As a result, location intelligence for first responders is increasingly challenged by vertical (3D) positioning. Skyscrapers and high-rise apartment buildings with vertical floorplans present unique problems for current 2D location technology, yet solutions for vertical location are evolving.
