The network traffic generated by users and applications can be large and complex. Simply checking a single e-mail, using a web-mail service or any popular streaming video application may result in thousands of IP packets, hundreds of flows and involve many servers. Internet Communication Records (ICR) reduce this data to events of interest and flow-level statistics (e.g. packet/byte count, application type), However, in a nationwide, multi-carrier deployment, the amount of traffic to be monitored, analyzed and stored is enormous.
