Fred D’Alessio
Fred D’Alessio joined SS8’s board after a prominent 30-year career that spanned key leadership roles in the telecommunications industry and includes executive positions at Verizon Communications and Bell Atlantic. Most recently he served as President for Verizon’s Advanced Services Group, with responsibility for the long-distance, Verizon On Line, digital subscriber line (DSL), Web hosting, and video service businesses. Fred’s career focused on building, growing and managing successful telecom business operations with expertise ranging from engineering, operations and business creation to multi-billion dollar revenue generation. In prior positions, Fred served as President of the Consumer Group of Businesses at Verizon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bell Atlantic Maryland and Vice President of operations and engineering for Bell Atlantic. He currently also serves on the board of two public technology companies; Network Equipment Technologies (NWK) and Aware (AWRE).
Dennis Haar
Dennis Haar has served as President & CEO of SS8 Networks since January 2005. He has spent over 30 years in high technology with leadership roles in global networking, voice, and computing companies. Prior to SS8, Dennis was president and CEO of GoDigital Networks Corporation, a leading provider of line-powered broadband network access products. Prior to that, he was president and COO at Aspect Communications, a provider of contact center solutions. During his 11-year tenure at Aspect, he held multiple executive positions in marketing, sales and engineering as the company evolved from a start-up to a publicly owned entity with over $500 million in revenue. Earlier, Dennis worked in various managerial roles at Rolm Corporation and Hewlett Packard. Dennis is also a former president and current advisor to the board of the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose, California. He has a BS degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from Stanford University.
Kevin Haines
Kevin Haines is currently a partner at PROTOSTAR PARTNERS. Prior to PROTOSTAR he was President and COO of LifeSparc Inc, a management spinout of the Automotive Supplemental Restraint Systems division. Prior to starting up LifeSparc in 2000, Kevin held positions in sales and marketing at Special Devices Inc. (SDI) and Northrop Grumman where he was actively involved in the design and production processes on the F/A-18E/F. He began his career in the Navy as an F/A-18C Hornet Strike Fighter pilot and finished active duty career in 1990 as an Operational Test Pilot at VX-5. Kevin graduated with a BS in Math/Computer Science from the University of Iowa and an MBA degree from the UCLA Anderson School. He currently serves on the boards of The Evercare Company, General Products Corporation, International Filing Company and VerifEye Inc.
Susan Mason
Susan Mason came to ONSET Ventures in 1996 after holding positions in high technology engineering, marketing and business development. Susan most recently led a successful consulting practice, helping Fortune 100 corporations capitalize on emerging markets and technologies. Early in her career, she held positions in marketing and engineering design of high-performance systems and microprocessors for Fujitsu Microelectronics, Fairchild Semiconductor and NCR Microelectronics. At ONSET Ventures, Susan specializes in hardware and software investments in the communications, networking and security arenas. She has extensive board experience that includes 1020, Airplay, Brilliant Networks, ClariPhy Communications, Glimmerglass, Obopay, PacketMotion and Securent (acquired by Cisco in 2007), Susan received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado and her MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles. Susan is a Kauffman Fellow and a founding board member and Chairman of the Center for Venture Education.
Robert Migliorino
Robert Migliorino is a founding partner of W Capital. Bob brings 30 years of experience in operations, management and venture capital having led business operations and turnarounds for several GE businesses. Bob has significant industry expertise within the enterprise software and technology services industries. He works closely with, and has served on the boards of portfolio companies including Hemosense (AMEX: HEM), Infinicon Systems (sold to Q Logic), Intranets.com (sold to Webex), KB Alloys, Khimetrics (sold to SAP), and Quick Arrow. Before founding W Capital in 2001, Bob was a founding partner of Canaan Partners, having participated in the management buyout of General Electric's venture capital arm (GEVENCO) to form Canaan, which has grown to over $1.5 billion in invested capital. At Canaan, Bob invested in a range of portfolio companies with a focus on software and technology services. Prior to forming Canaan, Bob spent 15 years with General Electric where he completed its Financial Management Program and managed several GE businesses within GE Information Services. Bob holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Drexel University.
Vince M. Occhipinti
Vince M. Occhipinti co-founded Woodside Fund in 1983, and has been intimately involved in the management and success of the Fund and its portfolio companies. Vince has chaired the Early Stage Venture Capital Alliance (ESVCA) since 1990 and has chaired several other major early stage venture capital conferences, including the IBF Early Stage Investing Conference and the SRI Private Equity Roundup. Mr. Occhipinti has a wealth of operating experience in both small and large companies in the technology industry. He founded Logisticon, Inc. which he led as President and CEO, and pioneered enterprise process and factory automation software. Earlier in his career, Vince served as VP of Marketing for Mobility Systems, and while at Levi Strauss and Company, he had profit and loss responsibility for the Stretch Levis Division. He has a BA from Stanford University, and attended the Graduate School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley.
